FutureScapes took part in the science forum “TeadusEST 2025: At the Peak of Estonian Science” in Tartu. This year’s forum highlighted Estonia’s ten Centres of Excellence.

Together we discussed how top-level research is created, what kind of societal value it generates, and how to strengthen the impact of the Centres of Excellence.

Kuno Kasak, leader of our Environmental Technology working group, gave a talk on researcher training and career pathways in high-level science.

Ivika Ostonen-Märtin, head of the Root Ecology working group, presented the aims and current results of our Centre of Excellence and introduced the data cube application developed within FutureScapes geokuup.ee.

Visitors could also learn about our activities in the forum’s expo area.

The forum also highlighted several key roles of Centres of Excellence:

  • Providing long-term and substantial grants to support top researchers.

  • Supporting strategically important research directions and infrastructures needed in Estonia.

  • Supporting research training (PhD, postdoc) and ensuring international attractiveness.

  • Facilitating the application of research results.
