Inaugural lecture by Professor of Environmental Technology Kuno Kasak
The head of our Centre of Excellence’s Environmental Technology Working Group and Professor of Ecotechnology at the University of Tartu, Kuno Kasak, will give his inaugural lecture “Restoring ecosystems for CO2 sequestration from the atmosphere and its role in mitigating climate change” on September 24 at 4:15 PM in the university assembly hall.

Our Centre of Excellence member, Professor of Restoration Ecology, Aveliina Helm, has in recent days given several international media outlets insights into the restoration of drained peatlands, exploring whether nature restoration could serve both as a climate and biodiversity solution and as part of strengthening national defense.

On June 23 –27, 2025, our Centre of Excellence team was represented at Europe’s largest remote sensing conference – the ESA Living Planet Symposium in Vienna.

Participation at the Nordic-Baltic Food systems conference
From May 26–28, 2025, the 1st Nordic-Baltic Food systems conference and policy forum #NFN2025 took place in Helsinki, where our project partners from the Centre of Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge also took part.
Ministry of Climate recognition
On May 14, the Estonian Ministry of Climate awarded nature conservation badges to outstanding conservationists, and among them were two members of our Centre.
