Our Agroecology Research Group leader, Eve Veromann, participated last week in the Plant Protection Conference, which this time focused on plant protection opportunities under changing climatic conditions.
Presentation at the Kew Herbarium in London
Our Ecosystem Management Team leader, Kadri Runnel, gave a presentation on 29 November at the Kew Herbarium in London – a place regarded by biologists as the forefather of all herbaria and the historical heart of biodiversity research. Over a hundred people learned about the connections between Estonian and UK forest ecosystems.

Professor Evelyn Uuemaa, the Principal Investigator of FutureScapes, and Associate Professor Alexander Kmoch took part in the FOSS4G conference in Auckland, New Zealand last week.
Participation at the International Water Association conference in Chile
Members of our Environmental Technology working group, Kuno Kasak and Jürgen Sarjas, participated this week in the International Water Association conference in Antofagasta, Chile.
Participation at forest-focused memorial conference
Ivika Ostonen-Märtin, our centre’s Root Ecology Group leader, gave a presentation today at the memorial conference “Development Trends in Forest Ecology and Ecophysiology in the World and in Estonia,” dedicated to Professor Olev Kull’s 70th anniversary.
Coffee morning - November 2025
In November 2025 we had our eighth coffee morning on the topic „Restoration of wetlands for CO₂ sequestration and the importance of long-term monitoring for assessing restoration success.“.
Participation in an AI-focused panel discussion
Our Centre of Excellence Principal Investigator, Professor Evelyn Uuemaa, participated in the panel discussion last week at the University of Tartu’s Faculty of Science and Technology conference “Artificial Intelligence in Natural Sciences: Who Teaches Whom?”.

On October 30–31, the RMK Nature Conservation Conference “Habitat Restoration and Protection” took place in Kuressaare, with members of FutureScapes also participating.
